Ryan has been practicing in emerging areas of tax law for more than a decade.  After studying and participating as a consumer in the crypto space for several years he became fascinated with the novel tax questions created by the crypto space (or as the IRS refers to it as the “virtual currency” space).  Unfortunately, IRS guidance on the crypto space is scarce leaving businesses and individuals to navigate complex tax questions in the dark.  It is our goal to assist employers and individuals in those circumstances.

Ryan began his career working with multiple Big Four accounting firms before transitioning to law firms.  Eventually he discovered his skill set was best utilized in an entrepreneurial role.  He began following the Affordable Care Act (ACA) closely and eventually launched a law firm to help employers comply, strategize, and navigate the complexities surrounding the developing ACA space.  Ryan has provided consulting services related to the ACA to a vast array of companies ranging from Fortune 500 companies, private equity firms, and small businesses.  He has also successfully assisted companies of all size fight ACA penalties assessed by the IRS.  Ryan is a leading author and speaker in the ACA space having written more than 100 cutting edge ACA articles along with numerous speaking engagements. Ryan became an equity holder and assisted in the creation of Accord Systems, an ACA reporting platform utilized by employers to report the Forms 1094-C and 1095-C to the IRS and now a growing number of States.  Accord Systems automated the reporting process for employers allowing the company to submit millions of Forms 1095-C on behalf of employers with impeccable accuracy and speed despite having to gather and read data from multiple platforms.

Ryan graduated with distinction from Georgetown University Law Center where he received his LL.M. in Taxation. He received his J.D. from Saint Louis University School of Law and was awarded numerous academic honors for his coursework particularly in the field of tax. Ryan is a proud alum of the University of Kansas where he graduated with distinction from the Business School. He is licensed to practice law in California, Illinois (retired), and Missouri (retired).

In his free time Ryan enjoys spending time with his wife, son, daughter, and golden retriever, McGee.
